Certification Process

Step 1 - Complete HIV/STD/Hepatitis C - Module 2, 2-Day Course (Free)

Step 2 - Agency contacts DE Public Health on your behalf

  • The agency that you plan to complete testing for as a volunteer must have a contract with the DE State Health Department to complete HIV Testing & Counseling.
  • An agency representative must contact Barbara Siers (barbara.siers@state.de.us) and indicate that you plan to volunteer with the agency to complete HIV Testing & Counseling.

Step 3 - Complete Fundamentals of HIV Prevention Counseling - Module 4, 2-Day Course (Free)

Step 4 - Work with local agency to offer/promote free HIV Testing

  • There are a variety of options; volunteers can coordinate with each agency.

Additional Information:

  • All course dates are listed on the Delaware HIV Consortium website under Trainings Registry (www.delawarehiv.org/trainings_directory.cfm).
  • Module 3 is called "HIV/STD/Hepatitis C - Presentation" and is designed for individuals who would like to be trained to give presentations in the community.
  • The above listed training is only valid for completing tests in Delaware.
  • The Uni-GoldTM Recombigen® HIV test (www.unigoldhiv.com) is covered in training and used throughout Delaware. The test yields results in 10 minutes.
